As I explain in "What Is Unschooling?" we do not teach, rather we facilitate learning. We facilitate our children's thinking, however we do not tell them what to think. We connect with them, observe them and note their interests. We then provide opportunities for them to explore that interest to the fullest (however fleeting or long-term the interest may stick around).

There are laws where we live stating that you must meet a certain amount of hours per year in each subject and keep records. This is no problem for us as we are learning year round, all day everyday. We simply must record and keep what we do. It is my job to separate subjects and break them down into categories. For instance if we bake bread, that's 30 minutes of prep that includes Math (using measurements to prepare and fractions to portion), Reading (the recipe), and Science (the entire process is scientific. Mixing the ingredients, heating the mixture and watching it rise). Then you have 1 hour of actually baking it. Full days of things like this and you've met your legal requirements long before the end of the year.
